A terrific Kwanzaa story to read to children. I enjoyed "Lynch" until the scientist described the process of reanimation and explained how Mary Shelly got the story of Frankenstein all wrong. I write historic fiction so I find a story that focuses on Paris many, many years ago, fascinating. The book may be about a songbird and its resilience, but the story has life implications that astute children will pick up: growing up, dangers along the way, appreciation of nature and more. The book does not "talk down" to its reader; in fact, it uses vocabulary that is challenging and enlightening: troupe, megaphone, eccentric, conspirator, machete, paramedic, tibia, bougainvillea, and trilby, to list a few. It was real not fantasy or make believe. But she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, a charismatic Irish billionaire - and a suspect in Eve's latest murder investigation.
