It is a book whose themes are relevant to the general malaise of the day, where everything has seemingly lost its meaning and is based on subjective visions of reality. I get the the feeling that, rather than trying to affect a seventeenth century style, it was absolutely effortless for him, and that the only effort came in trying to adjust it for a modern readership.
